My Métis Background
My grandfather was Scottish. His father, my Great Grandfather, Murdock McDonald, and his brother came to Canada aboard a Hudson Bay boat from Stornoway, Scotland during the early 1800s. They settled in Fort Pelly, Saskatchewan as fur-traders for the Hudson Bay Company.
My grandmother was a status Indian from the Duck Bay/Camperville area of central Manitoba. She met my grandfather while attending a rodeo with her sisters. My grandfather was a trick rider and he roped her.
During their marriage, they raised 7seven kids while managing a 20 square mile trap-line, which once was considered one of the largest trap-lines in Manitoba.
